Mayflower March Madness
We're trying something a little different this year. We love having you over to the greenhouse for programming each year. Only problem is, once things get rockin' and the place gets set up for spring, it gets a bit difficult to fit you and all our great plants and displays. So this year, before everything breaks loose, we're dedicating a solid week to bringing you programming that's been so popular in the past. It's an experiment so make sure you let us know how it works for you.
Please note: We will be accepting phone reservations (920-869-2045) beginning Monday, January 25. Space is very limited so call early. Space will be held only after program fees have been submitted. Send your check to:

Here are some details on the classes we have lined up for you:
Monday, March 8 - The Best of 2009
Jan Wos and Glenn Spevacek present the Best of 2009. From Bangkok to Chicago, Madison to Warsaw. The dynamic duo from Mayflower will review their travels of the past year and new ideas gathered from near and far. Container and gardening ideas, new plants and, of course, lots of fun. This program is FREE.
Tuesday, March 9 - Garden Decor
We'll cover Garden decor and more. For some time now, the trend has been to smaller gardens, "outdoor rooms" and decorating the patio area where you entertain guests. Our staff will present a number of possibilities you can use to make your leisure hours out of doors more pleasurable. We'll demonstrate making self contained garden fountains, picture frame planters, planting junk, as well as creating fanciful topiaries and espaliers. This program is FREE.
Wednesday, March 10 - Thai Dinner
We're bringing back our very popular Thai dinner. This is more of a social event than a learning experience but you will have an opportunity to snoop around the greenhouse a bit while partaking in some liquid refreshments and hors d'oeuvres before dinner. The meal will once again be presented by Pachia from Bangkok Gardens. Jan will regale us with stories from his 3rd and latest trip to Thailand. Cost is $40/person.
Thursday, March 11 - Mosaic Art
Karin Overbeck, Door County's master mosaic artist teaches a make 'n' take workshop. She'll show us how to Frame a Loved One (or yourself). Let's have fun putting mosaics on a wide picture frame. Picture this - Nana surrounded in buttons, Little Susie in bows, Rover with sticks or Tommy in stones. Lots of material will be provided. Bring special knick knacks as clues so your family will know you framed them.. Cost for instruction and materials is $40/person.
Friday, March 12 - Silk Scarves with Botanical Dyes
Mayflower is proud to welcome Wisconsin Public Television's Shelley Ryan, host of the Wisconsin Gardener leading a workshop on: Silk Scarves with Botanical Dyes
Create beautifully dyed silk scarves using common garden plants, as well as grocery store finds such as blueberries and tea leaves. Shelley will guide you through an easy technique that you can confidently repeat at home. The process is simple, but completed scarves take four weeks. You will practice all the steps - starting with dying and then learn to finish the scarves that Ryan started two weeks prior. You will go home with four dyed scarves - three that you started on your own, and one that Ryan started for you. They will be ready in four and two weeks respectively. $40 fee includes all materials.
Saturday, March 13 - Fused Glass Garden Stakes
We end the week with that crazy creative couple from Little Harbor, Doug and Barb Henderson, helping you craft Fused Glass Garden Stakes
Create your own fused glass garden stake that will be admired year-round in your garden. Beginners and experienced glass artists are welcome to join others in the creation of an 8" round fused glass piece that will fit into a wrought iron garden stake. After the class, the fused glass "rounds" will be fired in a kiln and be ready for pick-up at Mayflower Greenhouse in two weeks. All glass materials and the wrought iron garden stake are included. Cost for instruction and materials is $65.
